For the price, this unit is hard to beat. It's small enough to fit in any glove box for safe (out of sight) storage. All my signal reports are positive. I highly recommend purchasing the Nagoya programming cable and antenna listed in the product description. Remember that a good antenna is perhaps the most important part of any wireless system. One thing I haven't tested is the actual range of this device. I will probably do that when I have the opportunity to go to the country again. I've used a Beofeng walkie talkie in my car before and can say it outperforms it even with the same antenna. With 5x the power of a handheld device, you obviously improve your range and clarity. Another important thing to note is that for a more powerful device, you'll likely need a dedicated power line going to your vehicle's battery. This can be powered from my aux power jack so is very easy to set up and remove if needed. This is not possible with a device with 50 W or more.
