Mech. It seems to work. If you saw it in a store you wouldn't buy it. The stainless steel outer container is so thin it looks like plastic. It may be plastic, but it says "stainless steel" at the bottom. The bucket has 4 thin plastic inserts that you freeze in the freezer. They are so thin that they don't absorb much gel, so they practically do not hold the cold. If you want a cold bottle of wine to stay cool on your dining table, that's fine. This will prevent the wine from getting too hot. Anyone who needs something to cool a bottle of room temperature wine will never be happy anywhere. If you want something that will keep a bottle of wine cold during a picnic outside, forget it.
