The Simmons Fire Hydrant Repair Kit was just what we needed! The faucet was very slow to let water through once it was fully open. I suspected that the rubber tip on my rod was defective in some way or that part of the mechanism was bent, causing a flow restriction. The only improvement to this set would be if it was brought with someone to do the repairs. Pipe wrenches on the pipe and on the handle head including pull rods do not disturb this connection. I had to dig up the valley to pull the entire hydrant out of the ground and bring the water supply. Once seated on the bench, judicious use of a flashlight to heat her head allowed her to break free. The rod is stuck in the tube. Only after liberally applying penetrating lubricant to the end of the tube with a rubber stopper, along with a large hammer and long mandrel of the appropriate size, did the shaft move. After all the rubber parts were removed, it turned out that the existing rubber plug had hardened over time and was almost stuck in the closed position. After the new rubber plug was installed and the faucet was reassembled and reconnected to a water source in the ground, it worked as expected!
