Shrinky Dinked? Best in body and finish

Not quite right, but probably better than the Type R's black piano. Looking at the reviews, a common theme emerges. The pro-type might have been spot on, but somehow it got about 1/8 inch smaller in all directions during production heating or molding. I'm not new to CF kits, the 83 pieces in my Remin Ridgeline are great. It is recommended to thoroughly preheat the front and back of the CF with a heat gun or hair dryer until hot but easy to juggle, and then quickly heat the wheel. Put a lot of light on the cleaned and alcohol dried surface and smooth it perfectly as every part you touch will stick to that point like super glue. Smooth out quickly and reheat. A good method is to hold the skin close to the part at the edge of the airflow. If it's too hot to stand or touch, you're probably melting/deforming something, loosen it. When pressing and smoothing, keep the print at ambient temperature after leveling. This can take a few minutes, like hardening a dental impression. Once you cool down you will be in good shape. I basically flattened mine and stretched it a bit to get full coverage. I started going back but based on previous experience decided to test the limits of thermoforming. Once cool, gently rub rubbing alcohol over the new surface to remove any residue that may have slipped off the edge onto the shiny surface. After a few days, you can wipe off the vinyl, rubber, and plastic UV protection and then remove it to avoid clouding or fading. It should last a few years, only apply any pop up edges over time after a good alchemical cleaning as it will still attract dust. A little more heat and a spot dab of CA or plastic glue should seal the flashes for a while. Note that due to wear and tear, you'll need to replace it regularly anyway. The B/L for Type R and Civic owners is that with careful use of tolerant heat you can certainly get better results and longer life than no heat as that enables 3M. Glue. Don't even try this unless the entire car is 70F or higher, cold and 3M are not good partners. It's a cheap part and doesn't fit as well as the Thenice steering wheel button side pads which are tricky to install but fit better without undue manipulation, in other words they're the right size.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
