If you're short on kitchen space and rarely use colanders, you might think that the small footprint of these colanders is worth the downside. But I don't recommend them to anyone. The colanders stack and stack, taking up no more space than a couple of plates. They fit in a drawer or closet. On the other hand, it's a bit harder to get one and expand than using a standard screen. If you press on the rim, it may break during use and spill pasta or vegetables down the sink. If you pour boiling water into a large pot while holding the pot with two hands and wearing kitchen gloves, this scenario is not unlikely. Another clue is that the holes in these sevens are only at the bottom. This slows the water drain, which means you have to shake it longer and harder to remove all the water without destroying the strainer. After all, the large sieve is only medium. It holds about a pound of cooked pasta, enough for a small family but not a large group or a few recipes.
