Review on Enhance Security with Standard Motor Products DLA-166 Door Lock Actuator Motor by Kyle Tran

Will not fit Mazda Protege Left Rear Door

I purchased this to replace a broken lock actuator on a 2000 Mazda Protege left rear door. You could hear the original unit's motor turning every time you pressed the lock/unlock button, but the drive lever didn't move. When I removed the original actuator from the door latch assembly and attempted to install the DLA-166, I was dismayed to discover that the mounting holes did not match the actuator mounting locations on the left rear door latch. Comparing it with the original drive, I saw that the DLA-166 is not identical to the original, but an exact mirror image of it. After carefully disassembling the DLA-166 and the original, I was able to move the small electric motor and gear mechanism that drives the internal slide pin into the original block and put the original back into service. If you have to do what I did, make sure you remove the cover before attempting to take anything apart, and gently hold the springs while you pull on the large sliding pin or the pieces will go everywhere fly around. The product specs for this item should be updated to reflect that it is for right side doors. I don't know what the correct part number is for the left rear door, but if you move the motor from that to the old left rear block with the motor connections out (that's the only way it fits) the lock will work. To the right. Now I see from the Q&A that this is a right side product.
