Works very well I hate cleaning my aquarium and I have to say it keeps the fish shit clean and doesn't leave it on the bottom. May I add that I only use this as a filter, nothing more is needed as an external filter, it also saves money on buying filter cartridges and it saves money on my electricity bills as I have already used an air pump for oxygen and bubbles. It's easy to install, just connect it to the air pump and it's a bubbler too. All I did was add water and scrub the jar with garbage paper to remove the residue. I only cleaned it once and rinsed it well. By the way, I had to cut holes in the middle of the filter mats, but I managed. no problem with the scissors, maybe a manufacturer problem, or maybe it was just mine, anyway I'm happy
