Review on Dremel 663DR 4 Inch Glass Drilling by Edwin Kreps

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Loads better than standard glass tile bits.

THIS WORKS VERY WELL. I cannot express how much better this bit works compared to the standard glass tile bit you find at any major store. If you need to drill/grind through glass tile and have a Dremel, buy this bit! You will not regret it. We have a glass tile shower. We had to drill some holes in the tiles to install the shower screen. The contractors estimated $800 to drill 4 separate 1/4" holes. Several tilers have told us that there is a high risk of the tiles cracking during the process. We decided to do it ourselves. We started with your standard Bosch glass tile cutter on a drill press. This is a two person job. One for drilling and one for maintaining a continuous flow of water as a lubricant/coolant. The bits wore out quickly. It literally took 30 minutes to drill each well. Imagine standing there for 30 minutes with the trigger pulled and maintaining constant drilling pressure on the tile to move you forward. Note that this tile was only 3/8 thick. Unkind. We went through 2-3 drills per hole which cost $10 each. Enter the Dremel diamond drill bit. I saw it online and thought it might be worth a try. It cut through the glass like butter. The hole was cut in 3 minutes. My wife applied oil while I was drilling. In addition, this attachment also grinds / mills glass. This means that after drilling a hole to begin with, you can use this bit to grind outwards if you need a larger hole. Need to drill glass and have a dremel? BUY THIS! You will not regret it. Don't have a Dremel? I'd say it's worth getting an adjustable speed Dremel to get the job done anyway.

Pros
  • Diamond cutter for long life
Cons
  • Small things
