I have only used this carrier once so far. I bought this so we would have more room to stretch out on our family trips and it has served its purpose. With most of our luggage being on the roof, the kids were able to recline their seats for the first time in years! However, you have to pay for this comfort - a lot of noise! I would compare the noise to the drying fans in a car wash (maybe not as loud, but comparable). I assume this applies to all structural elements on a roof, but at times it seemed overkill. Be sure to tighten the straps as tightly as possible and tuck/tie so they don't dangle in the wind. Overall I'm glad we bought it for a longer trip but we didn't use it on any of our short trips just because of the noise.
