In home automation settings, I turn landscape lighting on at dusk and off at dawn. Since I installed it 20 years ago it's still using x10, not the most reliable. So I wanted to set up a feedback circuit so my host computer could tell if the light was on or not. So I bought an AC-DC converter (to keep my landscape power at 12 volts DC) and hooked it up to the relay. I connected the normally open pins to my digital input on my home controller and now I can tell when the light is on! If they are not lit, the controller will keep sending the "on" command until the lights are NOT lit. So far it works very well. Some of the documentation I've seen was a bit confusing as one place stated that the ground should be on one pin and other documents stated that it should be on the other pin. but since this was for NO and NC contacts it didn't matter as they are independent of ground. Only needed one of these (but now I have a spare!). Nice little bracket that was included so I could attach it to the pole from the outside, out of sight.
