Review on πŸ”§ 10-inch Tongue and Groove Joint Pliers by Carlos Phillips

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty good pliers

I find tongue and groove pliers to be a must. I have previously had a pair of Channellock(tm) pliers that I received decades ago as a young lad. They still work well but I thought it would be nice to have a larger pair as well (I had smaller hands when I got the channellocks) so I bought this pair of Sunex. Compared to my old channellocks, a pair of Sunex is fine, but not quite on the same level in terms of fit and finish. I immediately found that getting the tongue to "find" the groove when you adjust it to a different size took more fiddling. I thought I might improve this by rounding the front tip of the tongue with a file, but I couldn't because you can't see those sunexes. The connection is riveted, not screwed like channel locks. So not only can't you disassemble it, but you can't adjust the joint if it's loose (except with a hammer and anvil). But I think Sunexes are good enough. Tongue-and-groove pliers might be a must-have for odd jobs when I need to grab something big, but they're not an everyday tool for me. So let them come to me.
