This pump is perfect for cleaning out my 3 gallon tank (which I keep in my college dorm). I don't need an electric gravel cleaner as they are much more expensive and not designed for small aquariums, but I didn't get along very well without some sort of pump to get dirt off the bottom. This is the perfect solution. It's cheap and it works. I just put a bucket under my desk and let the water run into it. It takes a few times, and once you're up, you should run fast, but it'll never empty your tank; There's about a gallon left over if you let it rise until it's done. Always remove small fish first and be careful with gravel. It soaks up everything it touches. Although I don't like the gravel attachment; It's too big, congested and doesn't let me get into small areas. This is really a very simple product. i love simplicity
