This gravel vacuum is exactly what I was looking for. I use this unit in 20 to 40 gallon aquariums. The crushing ball makes it easier to start the siphon. Once the suction starts it's quite powerful, much more powerful than my other gravel vacuum and takes a lot less time due to the higher flow rate. I've never had to clean an aquarium and didn't want to start with an expensive vacuum so I thought this would be a good test. I followed the directions and what a mess I made. The gravel got stuck, the water didn't move, then went too fast, almost sucking the fish in. God. If you don't have experience, don't try or ask someone to show you the tricks. This pump is perfect for cleaning out my 3 gallon tank (which I keep in my college dorm). I don't need an electric gravel cleaner as they are much more expensive and not designed for small aquariums, but I didn't get along very well without some sort of pump to get dirt off the bottom.
