This later style is better and easier to install and remove. Were my bikes older style? which has a narrower width where the head meets the outer teeth ruined the new Park Tool head. These later types have thicker metal in the tooth area, around 4mm, while Shimano's older style has only 2mm tooth thickness. I don't know if the old style is new from China or improved by Shimano. Stop rotors from China have thinner metal rotors and a rounded side where they are stamped from metal. Shimano Japan rotors are flat on both sides and the metal is thicker. So these rotor locks can be made in China and Japan. If so, those with the thicker toothed area must be from Japan and the rest from China.
