From the outside this is a very well designed filter. At the end of the base is a bypass valve that provides a direct oil path from inlet to outlet when the filter is in bypass mode. Most other manufacturers opt for the cheaper option of placing the bypass valve at the end of the dome, resulting in previously filtered debris being able to enter the oil stream when the filter is in bypass mode. Wix also uses a silicone check valve on this model instead of the cheaper ADBV nitrile valves (which are still pretty good) used by other manufacturers. Wix has changed this filter over the years, so old reviews don't apply to the current design. .I will update this review with interior comments when the filter is retired.
