Review on Stanbroil Universal 8 Inch Antique Copper by Paul Zimmer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent key, nice and small, feels solid and here are the dimensions.

Got this to replace a long one that was sticking out too much. This is the perfect size as my valve is right in the wall. The bronze color matches the color of the campfire block, although chrome versions will also look good. It is made of metal and is very durable. Feedback and questions about other keys have been about sizes so here are some photos with rulers and notes. The distance from the tip to the handle is 3 inches. The handle is 1" so the overall length is 4". (The camera angle makes it a little longer than 4 inches.) But the important distances are the distance from where the valve stem sits in the tip of the wrench to the handle. If your valve is 3 inches in the wall it will only touch it but not catch it. So it's more of a max range of 2-1/2" to 2-3/4". I have a 1/4" valve so this wrench works great. "Depth and feels right on and off. The 5/16" valve is a bit tricky. It's only 3/16" deep so you definitely need to get to the valve and get the key on it as best you can. Still, it's not that difficult to grab, allowing it to roll. With 1/4" valves, I've played a few games with my socket set: one person had a valve that the wrench wouldn't reach, so it would roll instead of snagging. You can use a 1/4" extension add it and make it as long as you want. This works fine, but the wrench doesn't "hold" the extension like a socket, so it can be pulled out. The small 1" extension is nice, but if it's inside is, it might stay there when the key is pulled out. For me, the 2" extension stuck out of the wall a bit so I could grab it when the key came in. Eventually, before the key arrived, I made my own out a few parts of the outlet. The 18mm metric jack worked well as a handle and I've probably never used it for anything else. Add a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, a 2" extension added and I have one great little wrench! Of course it had a low WAF so we bought this official one. (Edit: I edited a few words and added an enlarged image of the dimensions.)

Pros
  • Solid plated wrench with antique copper finish
Cons
  • Don't really like it, it's ok
