Has some problems with single board computers

EDIT/WARNING: While I ordered this "Fun Kit" it seems they sent me a "Complete Starter Kit" and my review below is based on that kit. I recommend "Full Kit" instead of Fun Kit if you want to learn. I decided I wanted to study electronics so I started with this kit. So far I've found a few problems. (1) The development board is of poor quality, sometimes it is difficult to insert components, sometimes the components are not connected. I bought better quality breadboards. (2) Lesson 7, photoresistor tutorial says to use 1k ohm, you really need 10k ohm or you'll spend a day trying to figure out why your setup isn't working. (3) Resistors are color coded but they are mostly blue making it difficult to read the color codes on the resistors. (4) If the other tutorials are similar to the first 7 tutorials then this is what I see: they tell you how to wire it up. , but they don't explain very well what's going on. Especially when something doesn't work and you need to troubleshoot. If you really want to learn, you need to read other sources and also experiment with your setup. I think a 10 year old would get frustrated with mistakes and leave without learning anything. As an adult, I have fewer expectations and a better understanding of how to learn than I did as a teenager. So I had to sit down with my child to study with him and show him how to find and solve problems.

Pros
  • breadboard power supply comes with USB power cable which is hard to find.
Cons
  • Very Expensive
