I've used this around my window air conditioner as well as on my interior door to keep light out of the cracks (light wakes me up very easily, I want a dark room !) . It's easy to apply but make sure the surface is very clean first - even after cleaning everything I had to stick to the door because it wasn't smooth, I don't really recommend for painted wood surfaces but it does stick Plastic and metal good. Indeed it is difficult to damage the seals if the glue is decent. If you have more extreme wet weather, you probably need something with rubber instead.
