Review on πŸ“· Pacific Image Electronics MemorEase Plus: A High-Performance Film and Slide Scanner for Cameras by Mike Johnston

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good for the price.

Make sure to download the latest driver from [.] as it may not come with the latest version for your operating system. This is the second version of this device that I own. I bought the first one a few years ago but only started digitizing my 35mm slides and negatives this year. After 4500 hours, a small black spot appeared on a white screen inside the device, which I could not remove. Really no complaints after so many very good pictures. I ordered a newer model from Revain and when I plugged it in I noticed what appeared to be a smudge on the white calibrated image it was showing on my computer screen. Pacific Image Technical Support said it was a bug. I immediately sent the Revain device back and ordered a new one without waiting for an exchange. I was refunded even before they returned the device and the new device arrived within a few days. There are no complaints about Revain's excellent service. The new machine works great. Pacific Images Technical Support warned me that this unit is not the best for Kodachome slides and sometimes produces a slightly watery look. My very similar original machine has produced over 1000 good slide images and I have not yet tried the new slide machine. Produces good images from negatives. Keep in mind that this is not a professional device, but when used properly it produces good images. Some of my negatives and slides are 50 years old, so I don't always work to the best quality. You can change most images later. I use both Adobe Photoshop for detail adjustments and sometimes just Microsoft Image Viewer for contrast adjustments. Blurry slides and negatives always need some work. The device supports three scanning levels: Good, Best and Best in the Settings tab. The Good setting produces images smaller than 1MB, while the Best setting produces images larger than 3MB. I preferred to use medium settings, but processing time seems almost the same regardless of image size. Am I happy with what I'm getting for this price? YES SIR. There are 4000 pictures left! Update: 2000 negatives and slides later. The scanner works very well with Kodachrome slides. None of the potential issues reported by tech support are showing up on my device. Change the star rating to 5 but still make sure to check your device when you receive it. If there is a defect, send it back and get another one.
