I bought these to attach an OC-1 canoe to my truck. Here's what you get: a pair of cable locks and 2 keys. The cable runs through a hole in the locking mechanism so you can make the loop as big or small as you need. Once you create the right size loop, it will stay in place when you lock the device. The cable itself is encased in durable plastic and is nearly 1/2 inch thick (including the plastic coating). The other end of the cable is attached to the locking mechanism, with the cable being pulled through a rotary hinge attached to the lock. It can stay in place as this end of the cable has a strong metal cap that is crimped. The crimp prevents the cable from passing through. If you pull the other end of the cable through the lock, you will not be able to pull out the crimped end. It's basically locked. I love that it has an articulated arm that allows for flexibility. I haven't used it in Hawaiian rain and spray and haven't had any corrosion issues. Definitely a great buy!
