Add Baseplate

For those who bought them for a wooden deck trailer, please use the bottom plate when installing. Don't rely on the thickness of the wood alone when tying down 1,000 pounds of weight to get you from point A to point B. It requires trouble and is irresponsible. If you can't find or make a baseplate, use large, thick wing washers. I used a 3/16" thick 3" x 3" stainless steel plate I had on hand as a base plate. I made four of these plates, one for each D-ring. Stainless steel fasteners 3/8-16 carriage bolts x 2-1/2"L with stainless steel nylock nuts. Drilling in wood for carriage bolts should be as straight as possible as the base plates also have 2" center lines for holes, as do dimensions of the D-ring retaining plate. I modified the sketch provided by the manufacturer. Added hole spacing dimensions. I only gave her 3 stars for "easy to install" because she needs to make a base plate and use the drill guide when drilling carriage bolt holes.

Pros
  • BOLTED D-RINGS are the most convenient and flexible attachments. Commonly used as anchors on trucks, pickups, RVs, vans, docks, boats, platforms and trailers, they also come in handy as wall hooks in organized garages, warehouses and workshops. These D-Rings are Zinc Plated for excellent corrosion and rust protection. "Color may vary"
Cons
  • Small parts
