I may be old school, but I still have quite a lot of home theater gear - cable box, BluRay player, HTPC and amp - all in a tinted glass case front. Unfortunately, this setup requires you to carefully aim the remote at the device you're trying to control, and sometimes an action won't register as the glass front reduces IR sensitivity. This IR repeater helped a lot. I placed the receiver directly under the TV and moved the transmitters to the closet. Transmitters have small sticky pads for attaching to devices. The hardest part was finding the IR receiver on some of my components.
