An almost absurd imitation of a functional product

Like many other reviewers who seem to be still on their "honeymoon" phase with this screwdriver set, I was impressed with them when I first received them and was impressed by the many sizes and shapes of the tips, the magnetic chuck and the clever fold-down box. However, after several months of trying to use the different parts of this kit at least a couple of times a week (I work as an electronics repair technician), the charm has faded. At least one of the spikes broke within a few weeks. I started noticing that torx, phillips, and allen wrenches just wore out if I tried to use them on a screw that offered resistance. Some flathead tips had broken corners. Instead of the screwdriver turning the screw, the metal shavings simply cut off the tip of the screwdriver until it became the rounded protrusion of its former shape. In the meantime the cartridge had lost all of its magnetism so the tips kept falling out as I tried to use it. I have tried unsuccessfully to re-magnetize both the chuck and the tips themselves with a magnetizing tool. Second, the cartridge came loose in the handle so it just turned in the handle when I tried to turn the screw. I was able to glue it on with epoxy but wish I had to. I should have known what metal the tips are made of as soon as I received this set and attempted to return it. It's a very shiny, light weight, soft, low iron alloy that I've seen in other hardware I've bought at dollar stores. It is used to create devices and tools that take the form of the object they claim to be (because that's all it takes to get someone to buy them) without actually offering that object's functionality. At first glance this seems to be a useful mini screwdriver set, but it would be better to think of it as a kind of pop art sculpture of a screwdriver set, created as a satire on consumerism, useful only as a decoration.

Pros
