I have this hose to connect to a Makita 5" RO grinder (BO5041) with a small 3/4" dust collector connected to a cyclone to collect the dust in the workshop to be reduced considerably. when grinding. I'm trying to control dust in a store and this has been a big source of particulate matter. Short summary: The hose is cheap, robust, but does the job. It has fairly tight end connections, but the ones that mentioned the hot water trick work great. Softens it enough to bond. Then you need a strong connection to the grinder. That catch aside, it does what it says on the tin, it's cheap compared to other branded solutions. Details: My issue with this hose is that it's too stiff for finer sanding jobs. If you're working at 80/100 grit and just want a cleaner job but don't have to worry about the grinder digging in due to the tilt, this thing is fine. It also works great with heavier tools like a belt sander (if the port is the right size). But if you end up sanding (220+) and making really fine wood dust, or sanding a polymer coating (fine white powder) or drywall/joint, the hose is so stiff you can't control the sander. I was most interested in this hose for catching fine dust from larger grit, but when sanding in these conditions problems like the sander tipping and a very stiff ribbed hose pulling on the edge of the wood become a real one Problem. Ribs for her pleasure are not applicable here. That's why Festool and other similar brands use soft-surface hoses. This also explains why higher quality materials are much more flexible and easier to work with a grinder. You get what you pay for I guess. A possible solution to the rib problem is to purchase a 3/4" or 1" hose sleeve from Amazon. They are typically used to tie cables together, but a softer, stretchy woven material reduces problems with the hose snagging on a wooden surface. I'm pretty sure Festool would just slip one of those sleeves over their regular ESD hoses and then add around $75. However, this doesn't add flexibility to the hose, which is probably the biggest issue I've had. I know, I know, why don't you try the hot water trick with a WHOLE HOSE? You need a size seven lobster pot, then you have to fiddle with ultra-rigid hose to get into a pot of boiling water. Next thing you know, the lobster is biting the hose, you whip out your phone to take a video of this madness, then the other end of the hose shoots out of the pot and hits the side of your head (it always happens) and you throw your iPhone 14XSR+ directly into the boiling water! We're trying to turn a $25 tool into a $100 tool that we should have bought. Now you need a new iPhone and some serious morals. don't worry man They're having lobster for dinner (who's having the last laugh right now) and these COVID-19 restrictions are about to end.
