I think it does is better than having no grip. The product is of poor quality, does not want to open. All I can say is that I have had a pleasant experience with customer service. The original one I bought broke during installation and they sent me a new one very quickly. This one fitted well, but the levers that push the opening mechanism in the tailgate tend to slip. I have to push the handle forward and up (and with quite a bit of force) to open it for it to actually open, otherwise the levers just move the opening mechanism sideways and slide down.
