Review on 🏠 Kaytee My First Home 30 X 18 Multilevel Exotics: Perfect Habitat for Small Pets by Jamie Parker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

There are a few flaws but a great price

For the price this is a really good cage. I've had it for almost a year now and I'm still making that decision. Size: This medium sized cage is hard to find - typically a rodent enclosure is either too small for a few rats or a huge habitat with widely spaced bars. occupying a large corner of the room. This is the ideal intermediate option. It's perfect for a bunch of rats that need space to run and climb, but it also fits comfortably on my bookshelf so I didn't have to rearrange the whole room. Quality: I started Kaytee, my first home. for pet rats" version (white cage with black shelf) and the quality of this product is much higher than this one. These bars are quite flexible with gaps and I secured them with zip ties as other reviewers suggested. Although I do for aesthetic reasons Although I preferred the white powder coated bars, these bars are also coated (grey) and hold up well to the occasional tedious chew when my deer tries to get my attention. My rats don't run away from artists or chew plastic.Although several large pieces of "Some cracking on the shelves and top corner of the base is simply from regular chewing. However, the plastic isn't particularly thick so it might not take long for a motivated rodent to find its way out. This isn't the best cage quality. Cell walls are not properly fixed to the base, at least for me. I tried to fix the tabs with a pliers to bend, but now I just use zip ties to secure them. That means I have to cut the zip ties and put on new ones every week when I clean. Clean Up: The relative flexibility of the rods makes removing/installing the shelves a bit more difficult (more than "my first home for a pet rat"). " version). I also had trouble attaching the ramps on my very first build, but it got easier over time. [Update: One of the ramps broke. I just don't use the bottom shelf ramp now.] Honestly Being , I probably spend two hours deep cleaning this cage which I do weekly which includes everything inside (tray, two space pods, an igloo, hammocks, towels, fleece liner) I think it takes a while longer to disassemble and reassemble it all i've seen are some complaints about the slight kickback at the edges of the shelves, this collects litter which is good for me as it doesn't throw unsanitary items onto my floor. (This has happened on occasion, but very rarely. The plastic of the shelves and base is easy to clean. I also appreciate the depth of the base. It's hard to find, especially with the more common all-mead all cages This keeps toys and food from being thrown away Other Attributes: Distance between bars: 1/4" or 3/8 inch horizontally. My bitch is a bit small (300g adult) and I think she could get 1 inch between the bars so closeness of the bars is very important to me. Also, my rats climb from place to place just like they use a ramp, so I appreciate that the horizontal bars work like little ladders for them. Plastic ramps and shelves: easy to clean, no gratings or slats to contribute to foot injuries or other foot injuries, no need for fleece shelf covers. (although you can add them if you want) Easy transport between levels, I can drop everything to bathe in the tub whenever I want. Overall I am satisfied with this product and can recommend it despite the shortcomings. Rats love having a place to jump and play and are easy to set up with lava ledges and other fun perches and hangouts.
