Hard-to-identify and hard-to-build buildings spoil the fun of building

This 4D CHICAGO CITY PUZZLE is good in concept but lacking in execution. This is a three piece puzzle. First you put together a standard puzzle (a street map of Chicago in 1867). Then assemble a styrofoam puzzle with identical hooks (a modern street map of Chicago) to fit over the first puzzle. Third, add 3D plastic buildings to the styrofoam puzzle. The first puzzle is difficult, especially around the big blue Lake Michigan area, but the street names and boats on the lake make it a competent but fairly easy puzzle. The second foam puzzle comes partially assembled, with a few large pieces, and is very easy and takes less than an hour to complete. (Unless you separate all the tiny pieces of the styrofoam street grid, which requires careful comparison with a color map and lots of extra unsatisfactory puzzle time to put back together.) In the third part, adding buildings, the whole concept of the puzzle breaks down. . If you're new to Chicago, the buildings can be difficult to identify by comparing the plastic pieces to the photos on the colored building poster. You must identify each building by finding its numbered location on the color card and then matching the roof's appearance to the roof line pattern found in the styrofoam puzzle piece at the location on the foam card. (Some of these buildings are quite difficult to do, and you should also check the size of the plastic bases. It also helps to learn how to read architectural diagrams.) Finally, inserting buildings is a big problem. If you knock out a piece of styrofoam where the building enters you will NOT be able to see how the building aligns with the street and surrounding buildings. If you don't knock out a piece of styrofoam, but just push a building against it, the building will fall down every time you push against the styrofoam while adding new buildings. Another issue is that some of the historic buildings are gold in color while others are silver gray. The puzzle also includes a number of silver-gray "normal" buildings that you can add to make downtown Chicago look more like a skyscraper city. However, you don't know when these buildings were constructed, so inserting them destroys the historical timeline that helps you see how Chicago has grown. sixties. However, adding buildings was tedious and too tedious, so I abandoned the project after 25 buildings. (If I ever decide to go back and finish it, I'll glue the buildings over the styrofoam.) All in all, while the standard puzzle is fun to put together, it's too expensive compared to the cost of the entire kit (about $100). $30 per set). Reven). The rest of the set was a big disappointment. Now I think I'll try to find a photo book that will show me how Chicago has grown since 1867 or since the 1960's.
