Nice and Unlocked - Networking Products

You can ignore the nonsensical "AT&T Network-Ready" claim. This is an unlocked device that works with other UMTS and LTE networks in the supported frequency bands. I put in a T-Mobile SIM card and connected without any help. The modem has a simple and elegant web interface; I think that's better than what you usually get in NETGEAR routers. (Sorry, HTTPS isn't supported.) Setup is very easy and only takes a few minutes if you know what you're trying to do. The device can operate in two modes: router (default) and bridge. The functionality of the router is very simple. It can act as a DHCP server (no address reservation) and provide NAT. It can also support DMZ host, static port forwarding and port filtering (blacklist or whitelist). UPnP isn't mentioned in the manual or web interface, so I suspect it's not supported, but I haven't tested it. In bridge mode, you can connect your modem to a real router just like you would connect a cable modem. I think most people will, including me. You won't find any IPv6 settings, but it is supported in both router and bridge mode. However, you may need to enable it in your APN profile. In my case, only IPv4 was enabled by default. Speaking of APN profiles, one of these should be set up automatically when you insert a SIM card, and you can edit them. The modem can send and receive (but not forward) SMS messages. You create and read them through the web interface. You can send text notifications to up to three numbers when the usage limit for the current billing period is approaching and/or exceeded and when a firmware update is available. The bottom line is this device has exceeded all my expectations considering its functionality and ease of use.
