Review on Stainless Rear Axle Brake Line Replacement Parts by Mike Modesto

NOT a perfect match for the brake system

I was happy to find these brake lines as I had to replace them due to rust on my '97 TJ. I trusted the reviews and the manufacturer's statement that these lines would fit perfectly. No, both lines were too long, maybe 2 inches, and the curves on the ends weren't quite right. I had to work hard to make the connections and am NOT happy with the loads I had to put on the lines to make them fit. To make matters worse, the cheap steel nuts at the ends of the lines that tighten into the brake fittings had a problem—two of the four nuts were rounded. This was especially frustrating since I was using the right tool, a professional pipe wrench, to tighten these nuts. I should have returned those brake lines instead of fighting to make them fit. As many of you no doubt understand that having to fix your car and get it back on the road is paramount and have to send those brake lines back and find another part and then wait for it to arrive, I didn't want to. I haven't bled the brakes yet, so I checked the connections for leaks. If there is a leak, it's because these lines don't fit properly as advertised. I will edit this review and let you know what happens after I bleed the brakes. Bottom line, these brake lines will NOT fit properly on a '97 TJ. I would not recommend them to anyone for this application. Update: I can't change my rating after trying to bleed my brakes. The reason is simply that one of the connections was leaking like a strainer. The problem was caused when the new brake line did not fit properly and had to be forced to connect to the fitting it connects to. This resulted in the tube nut seizing, no doubt due to the cross thread. After spending another hour or so and a few gallons of wasted brake fluid, I managed to fix the problem and attach the brake line. I thought everything was fine and the leak was gone until the next day I found the same fitting was leaking again. In short, I tightened the connection a little, and so far there is no leak.
