Review on S12SD 200-370nm UV Detection Sensor Module Light Sensor for Arduino - Optimize Your Search! by Todd Stepp

Works to detect fake UVC lamps.

Although UVC detection is not the purpose of this board, it can detect almost UVC, all UVB and most UVA. B and A do not have a great germicidal effect, but UVC does. If you have a UV lamp that looks like a transparent fluorescent lamp, it probably emits light around 254nm. The optimal UVC wavelength is around 264nm, so UVC tube light isn't perfect, but it's close. I think UVC LEDs emit around 260nm but they are pretty weak and each chip is pretty expensive. So if you have a cheap corncob LED light, it's probably a fake. This module detects true UV light as its sensitivity ranges from 240nm to 370nm. I used it on my UV lamp and got the expected result. I double checked this by putting a piece of plain glass between the sensor and the light. Regular glass blocks UVC so as expected I didn't get any response from the sensor with the glass in the way. I set it up with a 5V source on VCC and GND. I connected the plus of the multimeter to the SIG pin and the minus to GND. To be clear, GND is common to both negative and negative multimeter. With the light off the meter showed about 0.29V. With the light on I got between 0.35 and 4.9V depending on the position of the sensor. With the glass in the way I got 0.29V regardless of the position. I hope this all makes sense. If you want to make a sterilization box with a UV lamp, this little device is a cheap way to make sure you aren't sold a fake lamp. Remember that UVC does not occur naturally on earth, so we have no protection against it. It'll burn your eyes and skin before you know it, so keep it in the box! If you want a great video that explains everything, bigclivedotcom has been experimenting with UVC on YouTube lately. Numerous websites with information on this material. I encourage you all to do your research! :)
