I had a bar with screws for door hinges sticking out in the jamb. It was the original screw and it was the same length as the post depth, which was an inch or less. By replacing that 2 1/4" screw, the threads reached the stud and I am confident that the screw will not break again. This repair method was much easier, quicker, and perhaps more durable than putting a dowel in the hole and to tar the old fastener. Also the finish of the new screw head looks the same as the original so one more screw will not spoil the look of the hinge. All in all a very useful product.
