The volume functions do not work when the receiver is connected.
This works fine for all Samsung TV functions, but if a receiver is connected to the TV for sound control, it will not work with the receiver. It detects that you're pressing something, as I see a message on the TV when the volume buttons are pressed, but they don't do anything else. I ended up sending the remote control back.
