Don't let the USB3 interface fool you. This device has a sustained write speed of 2MB/s (when connected to the USB2 port of a Dell High Performance Workstation). USB2 has a theoretical speed of 60 MB/s. I'm expecting at least 20MB/s transfers (when nothing else is doing I/O on that entire root hub); What I get is 10 times worse. The I/O speed in this case appears to be limited by the device, not the interface. This is for long term recording while backing up, which I think would be common. Random reads can benefit from an internal cache; I do not know.
