Review on πŸ–οΈ Faber-Castell Metallic Gel Sticks Set of 6 by Amy Mcleod

A set of gel pens good enough for most people

So at this price point this is a really decent art tool. I usually use Derwent Inktense pens when I want to do something with colour, but pens aren't always good for covering a large area and I haven't been very creative lately so I couldn't bring myself to spend too much. Money for Derwent Inktense blocks. I thought it would be a good cheap alternative for now. I've attached an image (taken on cheap printer paper, sorry for the quality) showing all colors (except white) both as a thin line with no water and as a thicker line where I used a water brush (my own because I used it prefer water brushes to the regular brushes included in this set). Then I also painted a small red area that faded to light blue, faded to dark blue and stroked over it with the water brush. Some colors blend better than others. The brown color will fade even with a light water wash. In my opinion, to get a decent color, you need to apply a few coats. Swiping across a smooth surface results in discontinuous coverage rather than a thick, smooth line. So for wider areas, you will need to swipe over the area more than once to get full coverage. The colors seem to be holding up quite well, I washed the brush straight away and couldn't remove all of the colour. Nonetheless, I still like her. They definitely work way better than some other "cheap" pens/sticks/etc. with water. Next time I'm feeling artistic I will most likely order their metal set. If you don't need quality artist supplies, this set is probably for you.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
