springs only do one thing, they close the screen door, they do not control the closing speed or the locking speed. I tried a spring first and found that keeping the door ajar when it wasn't locked was not enough. The two springs and the door actually follow you when entering and ensure a quick closing from any position when exiting. Also, be sure to install the springs so they don't touch any part of the frame or door, or you'll end up with a buzzing rattle. The 9 inch size is perfect. I tried every straw to calm her down. Now I like the interaction because the door actually looks like it prefers to close without overpowering. Not enough tension to close the outer door but who cares. , it's the perfect solution to that pesky lattice door.
