I used to have and regularly use an Alpha Grillers Instant Read meat thermometer and have been very happy with it. I replaced it because it was worn out despite changing the battery. This new model calculates the temperature slowly, the previous model reached it quickly. The display on this model flashes frequently when reading, so it is difficult to tell when the temperature recording has ended. The display also rotates when you don't want it to, so I had to turn my head to read the temperature. The advantage of this model is that it is waterproof, so it is easier to clean it thoroughly (especially from grease splatters). The probe has a wider range of motion so in theory it's easier to insert, but the rotating temperature display is sometimes out of sync with my eye's range of motion!
