Review on πŸ› οΈ Mastercraft Model Airplane Tool Kit: Precision Scale Tools for Perfect Assembly by Greg Bellman

The spring motor is too weak to turn the propellers.

That was a Christmas present for my son. He finished the kit yesterday and was thrilled. He says it displays fine but the mechanical function won't work. The gears turn by hand, but the weak spring-driven motor creates too much friction to drive the gears that should turn the propellers. Being a commercial pilot, mechanical engineer, and a fairly experienced fashion designer, I can say with certainty that his comment that "their design was too ambitious for their power source" is valid. He is happy with the model, although it doesn't work. He says the build was fun and looks cool. So based on that I gave it two stars. However, I feel a little ripped off. I could buy a static model of an airplane (which would also be fun to build and display) for a lot less money. The whole point was that once you collect it, you can wind it up and the props will spin. Only they don't.

Pros
  • Unique winding mechanism. The propellers of this model aircraft are driven by a movement mechanism based on a spring and a winding arm in the strut. Open / move sections. Unique moving elements such as propellers and start/stop levers.
Cons
  • So so
