I have been carving spoons from raw wood for a long time, I wanted to get a stronger and lighter wood for carving figures. This basswood is one of the best woods and the easiest to cut, the wood is very easy to cut with different grain orientations. My only advice is if you like hardwood carving, reduce the pressure on the wood as basswood is very easy to carve and a lot of fun. Like tools, Beavercraft sells very good and inexpensive wood. I stumbled upon a hobby with their tools and have been my favorite wood carving tool for the past 4 years. Oh, by the way, be sure to get some woodcarving ribbon, essential for carving sessions.
