Review on πŸ”Œ Gardner Bender Electrical SK GSW Switch by Nathaniel Collins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works on folding doors with modified installation

This door switch looks nice but only time will tell how many on-off cycles it will sustain. Installation is easy if you have the tools and skills to cut a deep pocket in your door jamb for the electrical control box. Typically the switch is recessed about midway in the door jamb at the hinge end of conventional doors or at the end of sliding doors so that when the door is closed the switch plunger is compressed and released when the door is opened. However, I installed it on a double pantry door that requires a modified installation. Because a double leaf door swings rather than swings, you cannot mount the switch in the jamb in line with the swing door. It should be offset to the inside of the jamb so that the end of the door triggers the switch when the door is in the open position. This offset means that the edge of the door itself does not actuate the switch, so an additional small L-bracket or block of wood must be fitted to the inside edge of the door at the pivot end to activate the switch. See attached photo.
