You need an adapter to activate it, as useless as a battery
Obviously charging current is needed to activate the circuit. If I understand correctly, the battery (3 18650s included and connected through these circuits) needs an input current before it can supply current. So far that corresponds with my experience. If I have to apply power from the adapter to this battery before it will function as a battery, then this is a truly horrible battery. Completely useless outside. Maybe I'm missing something here? (Help)
