I bought a KMC X10SL DLC bike chain to replace the chain on my Dura-Ace 7900. Not that the Shimano Dura-Ace chain was terrible; In fact, it was smooth and quiet at first. But after a few rides it started to "jump" so much that shifts weren't as clear and it got louder. Also, it seemed to wear out quickly. So I read about KMC on some forums and decided to give it a try. KMC is a beauty out of the box. I chose black and red and it looks great. In the future I may even try black and silver as others are suggesting to match the cassette. Either way, installation was easy, especially with the lack of a connector holder. I certainly don't miss buying Shimano chain pins if I want to clean them. In terms of driving, the first few rides were amazing. It was crisp, very quiet and perfect. I was happy immediately. I got caught in a downpour recently, supposedly some sand was kicked up from the road and despite my best efforts to clean it perfectly, it's not that deadly. It still shifts crisp and clean. Also, it doesn't make any of the grinding noises that my old Dura-Ace chain would make when it's a bit dirty or aged. But in some gears it has a "mechanical" sound that the old Shimano chain didn't have. It's not uncomfortable, but a little different from the ear. i almost like it However, so far the chain has been strong. I hope it wears out much longer than the old chain and can really give it 5 stars.
