My first set of Thule CU-9 snow chains lasted just over two winters with occasional use. I'm on my 2nd set of the 2nd winter now on the same car. I like these snow chains because they are quick to put on and quick to take off. However, fitting these chains can be difficult when the tires are loaded with snow and the snow is deep. You must clear the snow around the tires and the snow from the front and both sides of each tire underneath. Removing the chains without damaging them can be very difficult if the red wire is frozen and the bracket does not line up straight to remove the snow chains from the vehicle. If you find that the shackle comes loose poorly when removing these chains, lubricate the red wire with silicone spray lube at home as soon as possible. You don't want these anti-slip products getting stuck or frozen on your tyres/wheels! You'll have to wait for a warmer day and if you're lucky the hoop will stretch to remove them! Otherwise you would have to cut the red wire to remove the snow chains and drive the car. Cutting the red wire means the end of the life of these snow chains. I oil mine at least once in the winter.
