My iMac has 4 USB ports, but I have 3 printers, 2 webcams, 2 external hard drives and an external DVD drive, all of which I use constantly for work and I have been a little crazy trying to figure out which cable and which device was disconnected. I didn't want any more clutter on my desk and I didn't need a powered hub so I opted for something that plugged into the back of the monitor and it was cheap. They work well although I will say they are significantly larger than they appear in the photos.
