The bendix on my 30 year old Onan was chewed up and it came down to a $30 gear box or a $40 starter so I went with the starter. This is clearly not OE and there are some silly "almost but not quite right" details so I'm giving it four stars. It's close enough though, and it's working right now. Having read up a bit I don't have high hopes for the ultimate lifespan, but if a generator is used ten or fifteen times a year I reckon I'll get at least a few years of benefit from it and that's a fair equation. It fits, works and costs around 25% of the actual original part. That leaves me with just one question: Why is this nifty little starter STILL more expensive than the solid hunk of metal that starts my Ford Falcon?
