All other needle finders should be phased out

Needle finders are bad for us. 80 year old lath and plaster, the lath is a concrete slab and often the plaster has been covered with drywall. Other screwdrivers will not work. The magnets are also questionable. Instead, I spend a lot of time using other types of anchors. When I installed a TV mount earlier this year, neither method worked, so I decided to go scouting! About a dozen holes in the textured wall that I hope I'll never see, but what a horrible thing. This block: works. 100%. Well, right on these walls. In any case too sensitive, since it absorbs air ducts and such. But with a little cleverness on your part and a multi-LED display showing the size of what you've found, most of those questions will be answered and it's easy to tell if you've found a bolt, double bolt, or are on some. still. The only thing I don't like is the battery compartment. Difficult to find without instructions and looks like an unreliable lock. I'm used to sturdier tools and while I haven't broken it I expect it to be dropped or something thrown in the tool bucket and it falls apart, maybe breaks. I'll replace it if so, but not happy for $50. I'd like to be stronger, or at least with some sort of halyard.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Basically okay, but...
