Mitutoyo ('Mitsutoyo' is the correct spelling, but the company's official English spelling is Mitutoyo) is the most trusted manufacturer of precision tools in Japan. In this age of "make everything in China", Mitutoyo insists on "Made in Japan", which I very much welcome. Mitutoyo is the counterpart to Starrett, which also insists on being made in the USA, only being snap-on tools, Starrett products are too expensive (some Starretts are now made in China and have a terrible reputation). The price was a bit higher than in Japan (about $20 more) but it's still a good deal for the quality and I factored in the extra costs like shipping. I wanted a digital version but they are way more expensive so I went with this analogue version. If you want a precision tool I wouldn't skimp on a Chinese made one; go with Mitutoyo or Starrett. Some Starrett products (let's say cheap products) are now made in China and have a terrible reputation. Starrett is no longer my choice and I will stick with Mitutoyo unless Mitutoyo tries to save money by manufacturing in China like everyone else. Starrett disappointed me because I supported Made in USA.
