It's smaller than you think but made for decoration. Looks like an anodized aluminum block. The only thing I would change is that the tool reading window is not needed. The scale could be read from the side simply by sliding the scale instead of looking through the Idy-Biddy window. I'll probably just read the scale off the outside edge of the tool and subtract unless the chain is stretched enough to fully cover the axle. In that case, you don't have to read them anyway!
