More accurate bike chain wear gauge

This is the best chain wear gauge I have ever seen. Gauge pins are placed between two chain links and as the gauge is moved the pins move apart to indicate chain wear from 0 to 1. Chain wear is measured more accurately than sticks, which only have two points to determine chain wear.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Easy to use tool, suitable for bike tools and maintenance

This is a great tool to tell if your chain is showing a little or a lot of wear. Other chain testers are one size. 5 n .75 and it's hard to know if the chain is close to the limit. A worn chain is a problem, poor shifting and misfires. Also check the small cogs on the derailleur for side-to-side wobble. If they are changed by movement that keeps the chain properly on the sprocket, they can cause ghost shifts

Buy this and save money in the long run

This is a simple device that can save you a ton of money on your bike by simply letting you know when your chain is wearing out. If you continue to ride with a worn chain, that chain will wear out your gears prematurely, both front and rear. Replacing your chain when it's reaching its limit will help your chainrings and cogs last longer, allowing you to save money on important things like an after-ride beer.

  • Durable Finish

An exquisitely crafted instrument.

It's smaller than you think but made for decoration. Looks like an anodized aluminum block. The only thing I would change is that the tool reading window is not needed. The scale could be read from the side simply by sliding the scale instead of looking through the Idy-Biddy window. I'll probably just read the scale off the outside edge of the tool and subtract unless the chain is stretched enough to fully cover the axle. In that case, you don't have to read them anyway!

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled

Nice addition to my tool arsenal

Works as expected, if a bit more expensive. However, I'm a bit of an instrument freak - well, a big instrument junkie and I had to have it. My only issue is that the sensor reads slightly as if you are about to need a new circuit when in fact you are not. Don't get me wrong, you most likely will NOT doubt yourself when you find out, I just think it's the nature of the instrument. For example, if you read your chain with the number 0.65 when 0.50 is new and 0.75 means "time to replace", your…

Does NOT work with Campy Record 10-speed chains!

I have 3 bikes with Campagnolo Record 10 speed chains. 2 bikes NEVER RIDNED, not even tested! I first tried it on a bike that had about 2000 miles or more on it. I found that when inserting the fixed pin of the CC-2 tool into the chain link of the outer plate and the movable pin set to 0 in the chain link of the plate of the inner plate, the tool did not fall into the chain link! Please note: before use, that the side of the moving pin is a bolt, the elastic lock nut was too tight when…

Simple, Accurate, Reliable

This tool measures chain wear and is very easy to use. There are two metal pins on the underside of the tool, one pin is attached to the lever and is offset so that the distance between the pins changes as the lever is moved. This allows you to measure very precisely how much the bicycle chain has stretched. The stretch is visible through a small window. The tool is machined from solid aluminum and painted (not painted) in an anodized color. No plastic or fragile parts. The tool never wears out

  • One Year Trial
