I have 3 bikes with Campagnolo Record 10 speed chains. 2 bikes NEVER RIDNED, not even tested! I first tried it on a bike that had about 2000 miles or more on it. I found that when inserting the fixed pin of the CC-2 tool into the chain link of the outer plate and the movable pin set to 0 in the chain link of the plate of the inner plate, the tool did not fall into the chain link! Please note: before use, that the side of the moving pin is a bolt, the elastic lock nut was too tight when inserted, and had to be loosened so that they could move without much resistance! I then tried this tool out on my 2 bikes that weren't ridden with NEW Campy Record chains. Same result - does not contact inner plates! With both ridden and non-ridden bikes, the tool was in the same location on the inner gauge roller - the chain was not far enough away for the tool to be inserted and measured! Oh, and I have several rear wheel sets with similar cogs, so the used chain may not have had any wear as it was identical to new, unused chains. Drove 1000 to 1500 miles over a few years and found this tool reads halfway between 0 and 0.25 so the tool works with 10 speed-NO campy chains! I then tested the fixed gear bike with a SRAM PC 971. 3/32 chain with several thousand miles and a CC-2 chain check between 0.25 and 0.30 so ran it again on another chain, NOT Campy Record. And finally I tested the KMC HP70 chain on my mtn bike with a few mtn bike races on the chain and again the CC-2 tool showed just under 0.75 so it worked again. on a different circuit than Campy. My intended use was for the much more expensive Campy Record chains to see if any wear had occurred, not just the "recommended 0.50 chain change"; even only 0.25, so CC-2 Chain Checker doesn't work for my purpose. My observation from recent purchase and use of this tool is that it works with my non-campy chains but not my campy record 10 speed chains. Perhaps they have a slightly smaller chain spacing than other chains? I can't comment on other brands of 10/11/12 speed chains as I don't have them. Will keep it and use it on my Fixed Gear bike chains and My Mtn bike chains.
