Review on HyperX QuadCast S usb type-C microphone, black by Nguyen Khanh Duong ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good and high-quality product, but there are disadvantages.

In general, this is just a good-sounding microphone with a beautiful appearance, a couple of unnecessary (for most) functions and obvious jambs that you would not expect to see in a device for this price. Yes, even if you omit these jambs, for such a price tag you want a much better and cleaner sound. If you don’t stream with a webcam or don’t worry about the appearance of the microphone and its brand, then it’s better to take Chinese counterparts. Briefly about the sound quality: a little better than some kind of fifine, but noticeably worse than the initial studio micros for the same price. Records this microphone at 48kHz and 16 bits, this is enough, but I expected more. About 4 directivity modes, you can easily find out about them on the internet and in reviews, they were not useful to me personally. The stereo mode alone sounds pretty good even with just recording one of my voices from the front. The stereo here is honest, it records on two channels. When you connect headphones to a microphone, you will hear the signal entering the microphone, as well as PC sounds if you select micro as the audio output. All this can be tweaked a little and turn off the sound of one or the other in Ngenity. I don’t know all the nuances in this part, I will still test the microphone and its settings in different situations. The microphone connected without problems both to the PC and to the PS4 (as it was stated), as well as to the smartphone and Ipad, if it suddenly became interesting. It is advisable to use an OTG adapter in the last two cases, because when directly connected with a Type C to Type C cable to my Ipad Pro, the microphone worked every other time. For those who want to record sound and subsequently process it, fifin-type microphones will suffice, but here we are talking about a microphone mainly for streams. Personally, I took the microphone from my hands for 1/3 of the store price in perfect condition. Just looking for an easy to plug in, lightweight USB micro as opposed to my studio one with an external sound card. For full price, I would never take this.

Pros
  • -Acceptable sound quality - Plugged in and everything works, no drivers needed - Detachable and long Type C to Type A braided cable -Beautiful, fairly bright and flexibly customizable backlight -Touch Mute button -4 microphone directional modes (which I never use) - The microphone itself is light -Resistant complete stand (but not enough height) - There is a 3.5 audio monitoring jack -There is a physical input gain adjustment wheel on the bottom of the microphone.
Cons
  • -There is that well-known dark spot in the middle of the backlight, but it is hardly noticeable and its presence is a necessary design feature, so it does not matter. -Complete spider is taut and does not cope well with the suppression of shocks and table shaking -Connecting USB and Headphones for monitoring is located at the back and it is not very convenient to connect, since the stand leg is also located there - There is a ferrite filter on the wire and it is located close to type C, i. E. to the microphone. As a result, this ferrite filter constantly lies on the table and spoils the whole view, couldn't it have been placed somewhere in the middle or closer to Type A? (fortunately, the wire can be changed to whatever you like) -There is no physical volume setting for microphone monitoring and audio output from PC. By lowering the volume on the system, you reduce the volume and monitoring of the microphone. (Hyper X's proprietary Ngenity software has some volume settings for this whole thing, but they are not flexible and easily accessible.) In general, this is a big minus. -The microphone gain wheel is too easy to scroll (for me), and also has marks that are barely visible in the evening and at night, which also do not show the actual volume level from 0 to 100. Adjust the volume while playing at night and enjoying the backlight in a dark room, wildly uncomfortable.
